If you want a business that truly grows, you need more than ambition. You need the right people and support systems walking with you, time-tested frameworks to follow, and insights grounded in real experience and data. Whether you’re launching a franchise, building an independent business, or expanding your networking reach, every entrepreneur will cycle through three critical stages again and again: Create, Grow, and Scale.
These aren’t just milestones. They’re necessities — the essentials that transform ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Why Businesses Cycle Through Create, Grow, and Scale
Every business, from a small startup to a multi-unit franchise empire, experiences these three stages repeatedly. Think of them like seasons: creation is spring, growth is summer, and scaling prepares you for the harvest of fall.
- Create is about forming the idea, designing the systems, and laying a foundation.
- Grow brings improved process as well as new customers, partnerships, and market visibility.
- Scale ensures the business model can expand sustainably, without burning out the owner or the team.
I’ve seen this cycle firsthand in corporate consulting and in small business coaching. When leaders understand it, they navigate transitions more effectively and avoid the costly mistakes that happen when businesses skip a stage.
In the end, sustainable success relies on mastering both daily, operational tasks and continually executing transformational, scalable change. Follow the Knabb Consulting Events and/or Eventbrite page and participate in one of the upcoming Create, Grow, Scale Intro Sessions.
Create: Choosing the Right Franchise or Business Path
While Create can obviously address standing up a new business, whether franchise or independent, it can also involve cycles a existing business goes through to create new revenue streams, add complementary departments or units, or other activities that involve creating new components.

On the franchise consulting side, one couple came to me convinced they wanted a commercial cleaning franchise. On paper, it looked profitable. But their lifestyle and goals told a different story. With guidance, they realized they needed something more flexible — a business that allowed them to control their schedule. Together, we identified a franchise with a flat monthly royalty structure instead of a percentage of revenue. That one decision gave them peace of mind, family flexibility, and a growth path that matched their personal economy.
Lesson: Creation isn’t just about launching. It’s about alignment — matching the business model with the owner’s life, values, and long-term vision.
Grow: Business Growth Through Strategic Networking and the Right Consulting/Coaching Services
Growth doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It requires exposure, introductions, and relationship building. It can also mean engaging the right sort of consulting or coaching services to address an important business objective.
Take one example from my Network in Action (NIA) groups. A visitor attended a meeting and connected with a member during a pre-meeting introduction. That connection led to a one-to-one follow-up, which turned into a new client for the visitor.

Lesson: Growth accelerates when you’re plugged into the right networking environments — ones built on trust, accountability, and shared opportunity. Random networking burns time. Strategic networking multiplies it.
Growth Services can include NIA Mastermind Group membership (monthly, interactive meeting model that comes with over $30,000 in benefits), consulting or coaching services engaged by the hour or on retainer, and Success Advisory Packages to systematically address business objectives. These same services can also be used to address business scaling requirements and goals.
Scale: Expanding Services Through Collaboration
Scaling is about creating systems that multiply impact. I saw this play out when two NIA members brainstormed together. They combined their services to create a new offering and crafted a marketing strategy to roll it out. What started as an idea in a conversation became a scalable service that benefited both businesses. In Peer Advisory Boards, up to 10 members (covered by NDAs) come together monthly to create solutions, problem solve, and analyze expansion ideas together.
Lesson: Scaling happens faster when leaders collaborate, innovate, and put repeatable systems in place.

Coaching vs. Consulting: The Power of Both
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.”
In business, progress often requires both consulting and coaching:
- Consulting brings expertise and done-for-you solutions — speeding up execution.
- Coaching asks the right questions — drawing out fresh ideas, perspectives, and ownership.
When you combine them with peer advisory and mastermind models, businesses not only create, grow, and scale — they do so with confidence and support. In addition to Strategic Coaching/Consulting sessions spent directly with the client, periodic coaching sessions are available each quarter to cover the Pinnacle Success System™: Pinnacle Gift™, Pinnacle Productivity™, Pinnacle Offering™, and Pinnacle Process™. Some people will choose to take these workshops annually since your perspective and priorities change year over year.
